COVID Information, 1/22/25
Here’s how older adults can stay safe:
According to an online article from the National Council on Aging, older adults continue to be at greater risk from serious illness from COVID. While COVID-19 is no longer a public health emergency, it remains a public health priority. There are several things we can do to reduce our risk and keep our Seaglass Village community safe:
- Get fully vaccinated: Talk to your health care provider about the best timing of the new COVID shot, especially if you recently received a COVID booster or had a COVID infection.
- Wear a high-quality mask. A high-quality mask, such as an N95, worn around your mouth and nose, is recommended following a recent exposure to COVID-19, when someone has or suspects they have COVID-19, when someone is at high risk of severe COVID-19, and for anyone in a crowded, enclosed, or poorly ventilated space.
- Wash your hands frequently. Didn’t our mothers tell us that?
- Avoid large crowds.
What should I do if I think I have COVID?
Keeping a ready supply of COVID-19 rapid tests at home is recommended so that you can test if you have symptoms of COVID-19.
What do I do if I test positive for COVID?
If you test positive for COVID-19, talk to your doctor right away. Treatments are available that can decrease your chances of getting seriously ill and dying from COVID. People who are more likely to get very sick are:
- Adults age 50 and older (with risk increasing with age)
- People who are not vaccinated against COVID-19
People with certain medical conditions, such as chronic lung disease, diabetes, heart disease, obesity, or a weakened immune system
Medications to treat COVID-19, such as Paxlovid, must be prescribed by a health care provider, including your pharmacist. And for treatment to be effective, it must be started within five days after you first develop COVID symptoms.
Seaglass Village Covid Vaccination and Masking Policy
Fortunately, the outlook for respiratory infections such as COVID-19, the flu, and RSV continues to improve with better treatment and vaccinations. Recent CDC guidelines take a more unified approach to all respiratory illness, which includes practicing good hygiene, staying home and getting treatment when we are sick ,and getting vaccinations.
Although Seaglass Village is no longer maintaining records of COVID vaccination status, keeping our community members and volunteers healthy and safe remains our highest priority. Seaglass Village strongly encourages all members and volunteers to maintain current COVID, as well as flu and RSV vaccinations, for those who are eligible. Seaglass will happily make appointments and provide rides for members to vaccinations.
A member or volunteer may prefer to provide or accept an indoor service or ride from a member or volunteer with an up-to-date COVID vaccination status. Inquiries about vaccination status may be made privately, between the member and volunteer, during the confirmation contact. A member/volunteer may decline to accept or provide a ride or indoor service based on the vaccination status of the other member/volunteer and may contact Seaglass Village to make alternate arrangements.
Masks remain optional for all Seaglass Village group event attendees. Use of masks for individual services can be requested by either the member receiving services (for example rides, indoor services) or the volunteer delivering the services. This should be specified by the recipient during the request or by the provider during the confirmation contact.
Seaglass Village observes all safety protocols mandated by the CDC and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and reserves the right to impose stricter protocols when needed.
